Providing a lifesaving first aid response in a remote or isolated site where medical assistance may be delayed or evacuation is required, requires specific instruction and practical training.
The HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in Remote or Isolated Site course teaches preparation for first aid emergencies based on the site and in line with legal and workplace requirements, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
During Remote First Aid training, you will learn how to assess a casualty, provide safety, and how to effectively contact and relay initial, concise information to guide emergency services to your location. You will also learn to perform triage for multiple casualties and how to provide ongoing care.
Instruction on basic first aid and CPR will be provided, as well as treatments specific to remote conditions, such as:
The course covers completing incident documentation and debriefing, recognising areas for improvement, psychological impacts, the potential need for stress management and support, and seeking help as required.
The delivery mode for this course is a combination of online learning, followed by face-to-face assessment. The online component takes approximately 4 hours and the face-to-face assessment 6.5 hours.
Please note that all of the online learning must be completed prior to the face-to-face practical assessment.

Course Delivery Mode:
Online learning followed by face to face assessment.
Online Component:
This self-paced online component takes around 4 hours to complete, depending on your level of experience. It covers the theory components of the course through a series of video and online theory questions. You may choose to complete this during one or a number of sessions. You can also review the online theory after the course if you wish. We recommend that this component be completed using Google Chrome.
Please be aware that the online component must be completed prior to attending the face to assessment.
Face to Face Assessment:
This part of the course will take around 6.5 hours to complete. During this time you will cover the following assessment areas.
Performance tasks and Practical scenarios:
Theory assessment:
A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

It is recommended that the First Aid Component be renewed every 3 years, in line with industry standards.
It is recommended that the CPR Component be renewed every 12 months, inline with Australian Resuscitation guidelines.
